Giant Without a Body was a major presentation of the work of Nicole Eisenman in 2021, and her largest solo exhibition in Europe to date. The exhibition delved deeply into the artist’s practice from 2006, included a number of new paintings and sculptures. Nicole Eisenman’s characteristic works offer a colourful and celebratory first impression. On closer inspection they reveal multiple layers of meaning and intricate narratives. Many of these stories are based on characters from her own life. The artist also draws attention to larger societal issues and political frictions. With humour, she touches on issues such as identity, sexuality, and politics. Eisenman’s unique eye for the complexities of contemporary society and conflicting human emotions, engenders sharp and striking observations of our modern realities.

Astrup Fearnley Museet published this exhibition catalogue in 2021 with texts by curator Solveig Øvstebø and writers Rahel Aima and Diana Tourjée. This richly illustrated publication includes both installation views from the exhibition and detailed imagery of Eisenman’s intricate and multifaceted works.
