Alex Da Corte

Rubber Pencil Devil is a highly stylized, looped 2 hour 40 minute video work inspired by a variety of symbolic and cultural references, including vintage television footage, 20th century animation, queer iconography, and eccentric American culture and customs. By manipulating and visually reusing consumerism and art history, Da Corte explores themes of human desire and alienation with subversive humor and an introspective spirit. 

Produced by American Art Catalogues, this publication is the second instalment in an ongoing series cataloging the 57-part video series Rubber Pencil Devil, created in 2018, in the form of a flipbook. Featuring a conversation titled 'Interactions of Colour', between Director of Curatorial Initiatives at the Whitney, David Breslin and the artist, the publication accompanies the exhibition's intellectual, provocative, and absurdist world to critically capture modernity.
