Alvaro Barrington presents COME HOME at this year’s Art Basel Parcours, shown in collaboration with Sadie Coles HQ, Massimo De Carlo, and Thaddaeus Ropac. Installed on freestanding, sculptural structures, this new group of paintings furthers the artist’s ‘Hibiscus’ series – a recurring motif that Barrington has often abstracted through gestural painting as a symbol for Caribbean celebration, sexuality, and cross-cultural exchange. Located within Tropical Zone, an African supermarket close to the Messeplatz, the installation speaks to the migration of diasporic communities as well as the artist’s own biography, and follows the opening of Barrington’s major new commission GRACE at Tate Britain, London.
